It’s that time of the year again! As we bid farewell to the year that's concluded and welcome the new one, we have a tradition of sharing moderation stats for the preceding calendar year.

As most of you here might be aware, sites on the Stack Exchange network are moderated somewhat differently to other sites on the web:

We designed the Stack Exchange network engine to be mostly self-regulating, in that we amortize the overall moderation cost of the system across thousands of teeny-tiny slices of effort contributed by regular, everyday users.

That doesn't eliminate the need for having moderators altogether, but it does mean that the bulk of moderation work is carried out by regular folks — folks like you. Every bit of time and effort y'all contribute to the site gives you access to more privileges you can use to help in this effort, all of which produce a cumulative effect that makes a big difference in ensuring Stack Exchange sites remain a valuable source of high-quality content on the web.

We’ve been exploring the concept of using open auction to manage advertising on some Stack Exchange sites. Under this model, advertisers (who have been organized into categories based on their products) “bid” for an advertising spot. There is a floor price - a minimum price for the spot, and all bids must exceed that floor price. This community will be testing the open auction experiment, beginning on December 3, 2024. The question is a simple "How to fix a mug", nothing complex and can't see how it can have more focus.

Even if somehow it's not in a good format, I believe it's essential to give the OP time to edit before deleting it right away.

Lifehacks Stack Exchange is scheduled for an election next week, 2025-08-05. In connection with that, we will be holding a Q&A with the candidates. This will be an opportunity for members of the community to pose questions to the candidates on the topic of moderation. Participation is completely voluntary.

Here’s how it’ll work:

Until the nomination phase, (so, until 2025-08-05 at 20:00:00Z UTC, or 4:00 pm EDT on the same day, give or take time to arrive for closure), this question will be open to collect potential questions from the users of the site. Post answers to this question containing any questions you would like to ask the candidates. Please only post one question per answer.
If your question contains a link, please use the syntax of [text](link), as that will make it easier for transcribing for the finished questionnaire.
This is a perfect opportunity to voice questions that are specific to your community and issues that you are running into currently.
We, the Community Team, will be providing a small selection of generic questions. The following two questions are guaranteed to be included:
- How would you deal with a user who produced a steady stream of valuable answers, but tends to generate a large number of arguments/flags from comments?
- How would you handle a situation where another mod closed/deleted/etc. a question that you feel shouldn’t have been?
The community team may also include the following three questions if the community doesn’t supply enough questions.
- In your opinion, what do moderators do?
- A diamond will be attached to everything you say and have said in the past, including questions, answers and comments. Everything you will do will be seen under a different light. How do you feel about that?
- In what way do you feel that being a moderator will make you more effective as opposed to simply reaching 10k or 20k rep?
At the start of the nomination phase, the Community Team will select up to 8 of the top voted questions submitted by the community provided in this thread, to use in addition to the aforementioned 2 guaranteed questions. We reserve some editorial control in the selection of the questions and may opt not to select a question that is tangential or irrelevant to moderation or the election. We exclude any suggested questions that are negatively scored.
- We will post the final questionnaire on the Election page. Candidates will have the option to fill out the questionnaire, and their answers will appear beneath their intro statements.
- This is not the only option that users have for gathering information on candidates. As a community, you are still free to, for example, hold a live chat session with your candidates to ask further questions, or perhaps clarifications from what is provided in the Q&A.

As you know, Lifehacks recently graduated from Beta status.

It's time to hold an election for moderators of the graduated site.

The last election we held was back in 2019, a pro-tem election. Since then a couple of moderators have resigned - we thank them for their efforts.

So: we need to hold a new election to install an active moderation team. To avoid finding ourselves in a situation where an election would fail due to an insufficient number of candidates, I'm posting this to try to assess the community members' willingness to step up and nominate themselves, when the actual election's nomination period starts.

Please leave an answer if you'd be willing to run for a moderator position.

NOTE: This is not an official election nomination thread, just a pulse check to get a notion of how many people here would be willing to step up. Posting an answer to this question does not commit you to standing in the election when it runs.

UPDATE The election is now scheduled for mid-July. This will be a full Graduation Election, so we need a minimum of four candidates to come forward. The first stage, question collection, will start on Monday 18 July.

Look out for a formal announcement of the election here on meta in early July.

The staff at StackExchange have tipped us the wink that Lifehacks will be one of the sites to graduate from Beta status on 16^th December.

A formal announcement and details will appear on The Main Meta in due course.

In the short term little will change, we will lose the "Beta" label. The reputation required for privilege levels remains the same and we will not get a site-specific design.

Next year at some point there will be a Graduation Election to elect moderators for the graduated site.

The tag smell is quite popular (86 questions, in the top 20 tags) and is to be used for

Hacks related to dealing with smells and odours.

There's also an odor tag with only four questions. Can it be synonymized into smell? I could retag all questions, but somebody in the future could recreate the odor tag, and synonymizing/merging solves this problem once and forever.

I accepted some of them, and some were upvoted. Most were answered by other users very helpfully, and their answers were upvoted. In some, the images are mine or my family's, which ought substantiate my questions' legitimacy.

I was itching to ask question almost exactly along these lines on a stack exchange, and Lifehacks.SE seemed to closest one to this. However, the fact that this is a specific close reason prompted me to ask the following question on the meta for Lifehacks.SE....

Because they count it as Hobby, and not Home Improvement (Is not exercise just as important at a Desk for work or a Bath for hygiene?).
Fitness SE also doesn't want it.

In my case, there's a much smaller Hand Held item I'd like to replicate;

It seems more life hack-ish,
I already have some ideas & solutions and "parts" on the subject.
I was hoping some answers ideas to complement or share alternatives to my Hacks
